The story behind MML.
Maryland Moats Insurance was founded in 1925 and has been a local staple of the Granite City, IL, area ever since, protecting the people and businesses in and around the region. Ken Moats, the previous owner, was originally a Country Company’s agent. He bought the agency in 1985, and at that time it became the Maryland Moats agency. He kept it all the way until 2017 and was active in the agency at all times. At heart, he was passionate about farming, and he owns a farm up in Edwardsville, which is where he retired to. He has trust in Maryland Moats Lexow Insurance to this day that we still insure his family’s business.
Where we are today.
In 2017, Christy Lexow acquired the agency, combining her years of experience running her own agency with the same great people and values that have kept the agency going strong since its inception. This move has allowed us to expand our services to serve clients across Illinois and Missouri, with a focus on the St. Louis Metro East.

- Graduated from Edwardsville High School and Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville.
- Joined the family business of insurance by starting her own insurance agency in 2005, C. Lexow Insurance Advisors, Ltd.
- Acquired Maryland Moats Insurance in 2017.

The meaning behind the car.
On the outside of our office building there is a sign with an old-fashioned car that Ken’s best friend had painted for him. Since that point in time, she has passed away. In order to honor Ken and keep his memory, Christy had it totally refinished. On the license plate, it reads “Moats,” so that Ken’s legacy at the agency will carry on for generations to come.
